So let's start with Monday. Alex was assigned to teach our family home evening Monday evening and she was excited! She had the lesson prepared Sunday night. Her topic; the word of wisdom. She opened the lesson with information as to the ingredients of Coca-Cola. We were informed of all the ingredients in Coke even to the extent that research has still found trace amounts of cocaine in the drink still to this day. While drinking Coke is not against the word of wisdom, we discussed that things damaging to the body are. So it left the rhetorical and provocative question, is coke harmful? We read and discussed the importance of taking care of our bodies to the extent that just as the bible says, our body is a temple, does high fructose corn syrup defile a temple? Alex concluded her lesson with a challenge; to put our coke cans and fountain drinks in a box after we are done and at the end of the month we are to add up all the calories, sugar grams and caffeine consumed! Wow!
After such a wrenching challenge you can see that we have all but kicked the habit with these before and after shots. The first image is our monthly intake of coke, which we set up in our basement. The second, is the box of our coke intake since the lesson.

So, needless to say, she did a great job in teaching us to take better care of our bodies, they are afterall, one of God's gifts to us.
Later this week Alex and I went out to play catch. She's quite interested in baseball. She has a pink and black glove and a pink softball. She was catching like a girl for a while, but after working with her yesterday she is now catching like a ball player! She looks athletic, her throws are solid and her form puts Derek Jeter to shame! Poor Jeter, my daughter puts his skill to shame and my looks put his to shame--poor Derek. Anyway, back to the story...so Alex was getting so comfortable and so confident, her new found confidence overshadowed her reaction and she tried to catch my fastball with her bare hand instead of her glove. She opened her mouth to scream, but nothing came out. It was a lesson, she'll only need to learn once--Only 3 people in history can catch a screaming fastball with their bare hand; Bo Jackson, Brian Swan and Chuck Norris.* Alex is doing awesome, we may have a softball player come next spring.
Mesia has been working overtime all week. She's a trooper. It makes for long days for Sam and I, but in the end, it's worth it. A few extra bucks will greatly help as we are getting ready to pay for our vacation in August and my final seat deposit for school. Once every few days, Sam and I pack up to go visit her for lunch. Yesterday we had some Japanese food in the mall food court next to her office. Sam loves teriyaki! We have a great time together on her lunch break, but I must say, Sam's company in the car--a 25 minute car ride--is quite dull, all she does is sleep, and it makes me want to sleep. Too bad someone has to drive!
Speaking of Mesia, her enchanting energy has attracted the wondrous forest creatures here in Bay. We will be posting pictures of all her furry little friends along the way, right now I haven't caught them in the act of cleaning the house with her because I'm at the gym Saturday mornings. But when I get home I hear all about it. The squirrels clean the floor, the birds line dry the clothes and rags, the rabbits put the toys away and evidently, word has gone around because Bambi's cousin (we all know his Mom and him are dead now--Lynn and Miles shot them) came knocking at the back door
Sam is still moving around. She has told me her goal is to climb our stairs in record breaking time, unassisted. So far she is at 30 seconds for 13 stairs, about 2 seconds a stair. "Not bad" I told her, but she is not satisfied. In fact, she is angry and determined to beat me in a race. Cool thing is, she has been yelling her kiai after each step. Kinda like a victory cry! Oh blessed child, just like her Dad (I used to kiai after my final exams in college!).
And finally me. The extent of my week can be summed up with a recap of our ward talent show Friday night. I was approached Sunday by a guy in our elder's quorum who recruited me to join him and some guys in performing a river dance during the show. I reluctantly agreed. No one really knows that one of my deepest passions in life is River Dance and I didn't want to put the guys to shame. But it went great, they kept up nicely...here's a video, I know you may not recognize me, I grew my hair out this week specifically for the talent show. I felt that blonde locks would create quite the stage presence. I also bought a black puffy shirt and leather pants for showmanship purposes. Once I told the guys about my passion and how many secret lessons I've taken, they agreed to let me make my grand entrance at about 48 seconds into the routine. So you'll see me come in stage left (my left) at that mark. We called our skit "Thunderstorm" in honor of the weather we've had here this week. Hope you enjoy, I feel the lessons paid off.
I know you can see my screw up. I was so mad about it after. But considering this was the first time I've ever showed off my dance skills in front of a crowd, I was a little nervous. So please don't bring it up next time we talk, I lost a little sleep over it, but I think I'm moving past it now. We did get a standing "O!"
Well, we hope all is well back home! Until next time!
We love you all
*Chuck Norris is still in all record books for catching a screaming fastball with his barehand although it should be made known that he bobbled it and almost dropped it.
